On Tuesday, the BC Ministry of Transportation announced that the Kicking Horse Canyon section, located east of Golden, will be subject to extended traffic closures between September 26th and December 1st. According to the province, the closure is necessary to continue ongoing improvements, although the highway will be open during the Thanksgiving holiday, from noon Oct. 7 to noon Oct. 11.

All traffic on Highway 1 between Golden and Castle Junction will be routed via the 93S and 95 freeways, with the detours adding up to an hour and a half of additional travel time. The province says road signs will provide advance notice of the closure and that drivers should watch out for wildlife, children and school buses while using the alternative routes.
