Three women were injured Monday when they were hiking in Almaden Quicksilver County Park and an oak tree fell on the trail, officials said. The women’s injuries ranged from minor to moderate, and one of the women had a head injury, Frank Weiland, deputy park ranger for Santa Clara County Parks and Recreation, told SFGATE. The incident happened at 9:35 am. on Mine Hill Trail, and rangers and the San Jose Fire and Police Department responded to the scene, Weiland said. “Park rangers were able to locate three victims and did a quick assessment and took them to an area where they were waiting for ambulances,” Wayland said by phone. Yelp / J.J The women were taken to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center in San Jose. The tree was 40 feet from the trail and Weiland described it as a mature oak. Weiland said the trail was temporarily closed and reopened after rangers deemed it safe. “Occasionally, trees fall for unknown reasons or an act of nature,” Weiland said. “I haven’t experienced a situation where a tree fell and injured someone in a county park.” Amy Graff is the news editor for SFGATE.
