“The Immunization of School Students Act (1990), Section 11, subsections (1) and (2) requires public health units to maintain and review immunization records for each student attending school and to impose in-school suspension for incomplete vaccination information”, says the Health Unit in its announcement. “Due to outdated immunization records, 1,519 high school students were suspended today.” The Health Unit says the following steps will take place once a student/parent/guardian provides the Health Unit with an updated immunization record: Article continues below local sponsor message
The file will be updated, The student/parent/guardian and the school principal will be informed, The suspension will be lifted and The student may return to school.
They say immunization clinics are available at the Health Unit today and throughout the week. While appointments are not required, they say you can visit wechu.org/getimmunized for more information on clinic hours and to make an appointment. They say vaccination records are accepted in person between 8:30 A.M. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, at their offices in Windsor and Leamington. The student’s primary health care provider may also fax updated immunization records to the Health Unit at 519-258-7288.
