The following statement was issued by Enbridge: At about 9 a.m. today, Enbridge Gas representatives responded to a gas leak at 622 Albert St East in Sault Ste Marie. A church was being demolished and the gas service was accidentally damaged in the process. The spill was quickly contained and the road is open. Gas service to customers in the area was not affected. Original story: Earlier this morning, Sault Fire Services and Enbridge Gas attended to a gas leak at a construction site near the corner of Albert Street East and Brock Street. Sault Fire Services Deputy Chief Paul Milosevich confirmed to SooToday that the construction company working to demolish the parish hall next to St. Luke’s Anglican Cathedral hit a natural gas line, resulting in the leak. Enbridge Gas contacted the fire department to come and assist at the incident just in case. “When our crews got there, Enbridge was already there,” Milosevic says. “Our main priority is to get the gas company there when there’s a leak. They were already taking care of it when we got there, so there was very limited interaction on our end.”
