A smoky skies advisory remains in effect for most of BC’s Southern Interior. Environment Canada says smoke from the fire is expected to linger for the next 24 to 48 hours. Meteorologist Alyssa Charbonneau says the smoke hovering over the interior is from wildfires burning in both southern B.C. as well as in the United States. On Monday, Environment Canada predicted that rain would help the smoke out, however, the smoke has remained in the Okanagan. “The overall pattern has been pretty loose, meaning we haven’t had a lot of good wins coming in to clear the smoke. We’ve had a few showers, but they’ve been more isolated and just been pretty stagnant in southern BC,” Charbonneau. A smoke break is likely from Friday. “We’re hoping we’ll see stronger winds pick up a loft from the west that could clear some of the smoke out of the Okanagan and we’re also expecting more rain and cooler with that helping the fire situation as well.”
