WASHINGTON – Two busloads of migrants decamped Thursday morning outside Vice President Kamala Harris’ residence in Northwest Washington, DC About 100 migrants, mostly from Venezuela, arrived shortly before 7 a.m. from the Del Rio area of Texas and disembarked outside Harris’ official residence, the U.S. Naval Observatory, near the main guard gate. The migrants were picked up in Eagle Pass, Texas and sent by Texas Governor Greg Abbott, FOX News reports. FOX News reporter Griff Jenkins was there as Secret Service agents arrived at the gate as immigrants stood outside with bags of belongings before moving to a nearby church. FOX 5 spoke with D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser Thursday about the situation. “Well, you’ve heard me say throughout this experience since April that we have a national problem that will require a national response,” Bowser said. “We’re going to do everything we can in DC to make sure people get a humane welcome and get to their final destinations. But we see in the coming months that this problem could get worse.” “I know what we’re dealing with,” Bowser said when asked if the experience gave her a better understanding of what’s being dealt with in other parts of the country. “I’m being elected to make sure that the people of DC have what they need and that our systems can support our needs. When we have emergencies, we set up an emergency response. And that’s what we’re doing to focus on what’s coming on our way.” “To me, there’s a political conversation that needs to be had about immigration. The point I want to make is that we need to have a system that makes sense, that’s fair, and that gives people a path to citizenship that is here. And that’s something that Congress and the president have to handle,” he said. “For mayors like me who are dealing with a crisis – not ours. And we’re not a border city – we don’t have the infrastructure to handle this level of immigration in our city. But we’re going to create a new normal here in our infrastructure and we have a humane welcome for people and effective service delivery. But we don’t have the ability — we’re not Texas.” “I’m sure they understand and see the situation clearly,” Bowser said when asked if she thought the situation would make the Biden administration see the immigration problem more clearly. “All the lawmakers here — and the lawmakers back home in Texas or Arizona — need to understand that we need a system — an immigration system — that works. That’s fair at the border, but we’re also dealing with the millions of people who live here who need a pathway to citizenship.”
