RCMP have blocked off part of the intersection at Hwy 97 and Fairview Rd. UPDATE 4:41 p.m A 64-year-old Penticton man was killed in a motorcycle-car crash Thursday. Penticton RCMP Sgt. Sergeant Jason Baida said at 12:22 p.m., first responders were called to a motor vehicle crash between a Yamaha motorcycle and a Volkswagen car on Channel Parkway at the intersection of Green Mountain Road. The early investigation indicates the Volkswagen was northbound on Channel Parkway and turning left onto Green Mountain Road. At the same time, the motorcycle was traveling southbound on Channel Parkway through the intersection when the two vehicles collided. “The motorcyclist, a 64-year-old man from Penticton, was ejected and died at the scene,” Bayda said in a news release. The driver of the Volkswagen, a 40-year-old man also from Penticton, was not injured. Both southbound lanes and one northbound lane remain closed but are expected to reopen by 5:30 p.m. There is no evidence of criminality in this conflict. UPDATE 3:45 p.m Southbound lanes are closed in Penticton at Fairview Road. DriveBC says there is a local detour. The northbound lanes are reopening. Drivers are advised to use caution and expect delays. UPDATE 1:38 p.m According to DriveBC, the freeway is now open. ORIGINAL 1 p.m A vehicle incident has closed Highway 97 in the South Okanagan.
