BAZAAR.com has learned that Buckingham Palace officials have informed Prince Harry that he can wear his military uniform to Queen Elizabeth II’s final vigil. On Saturday night, he will join his royal relatives at Westminster Hall to stand in silence for 15 minutes in front of the Queen’s coffin. Her funeral will take place two days later, on Monday, September 19. Tim Graham//Getty Images The decision comes after BAZAAR reported that the Palace had not granted the Duke of Sussex permission to wear the outfit to mourning ceremonies for the late monarch – including her funeral – as the formal attire is reserved for working members of the royal family. At the time, the news came as a shock, due to the fact that Harry served in the British Army for 10 years and Prince Andrew, who is also no longer a working royal, was given early permission to wear the uniform at the mother’s vigil. A Sussex spokesman told BAZAAR’s royal contributor Omid Scobie at the time: “Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex will wear a morning suit to all events in honor of his grandmother. His decade of military service is not defined by the uniform he wears and we respectfully request that the focus remain on the life and legacy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.” The spokesperson added that Harry would wear a mourning suit. However, it appears the Palace has gone back on its original decision and Harry will don his military uniform this weekend, along with his brother Prince William and father King Charles III, to honor his beloved grandmother. “Grandma, while this final parting brings us great sadness, I am forever grateful for all of our first encounters—from my earliest childhood memories with you, to meeting you for the first time as my Commander-in-Chief, to the first moment you met my lovely wife and you hugged your lovely great-grandchildren,” Harry wrote in his tribute to the Queen after her death last Thursday. “I love these moments that I share with you, and the many other special moments in between. You are already missed so much, not only by us, but by the whole world. And as these are first meetings, we now honor my father in new role as King Charles III’.
