(Jerry Earle, file photo.) The only thing clear about the day of mourning on Monday is that it is shaping up to be a mixed bag as to what is open and what is not. NAPE President Jerry Earle says they’ve been inundated with calls from employees and even employers wondering what’s what. Federal and provincial government offices will be closed Monday, but childcare centers are split on whether to open or close. With schools closed, some parents are now scrambling to find childcare. Similar confusion exists with municipalities as some, including St. John’s, do not mark the holiday while others do. Some workers simply cannot take the day off as appointments are already scheduled. Clinics and tests at health facilities were scheduled, in some cases, months in advance and cannot be canceled, Earle says. Earle says a home worker who did the day wouldn’t get paid.
