The short warning forced many businesses and services to adjust their plans. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau declared a federal holiday on Tuesday. The PEI followed shortly after with its own announcement of a provincial holiday. While some businesses and institutions are still planning, here’s what we know so far about what’s open and closed on Monday.​

All federal, municipal and provincial government offices are closed. Schools are closed. Holland College is closed. The University of Prince Edward Island is closed. Testing sites for COVID-19 are open. Canada Post is closed and will not have a delivery service. Island Waste Management will normally have waste collection. Waste Watch offices and drop-off centers in Charlottetown, Brockton and Dingwells Mills will remain closed. Banks will be open during normal business hours. Credit unions will close. Royalty Crossing Mall is closed. Confederation Court Mall is closed, but Shoppers Drug Mart in the mall is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sobeys, Foodland and Co-op stores are open. Kays Wholesale will be open during regular business hours. The Global Grocery Store in Charlottetown will be open noon to 6 p.m Panda Mart in Charlottetown will be open from 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m Topfresh Asian Grocery Store in Charlottetown will be open from 9am to 7pm Some Murphy’s pharmacies and food markets, including Queen Street, Kinlock, Cornwall, Kensington and West Royalty, are open at various times. Others are closed. PEI Liquor Control Commission outlets are closed. PEI cannabis shops are closed. The Public Libraries of PEI are closed. T3 Transit will run urban services on the Saturday schedule. Rural transport will not be available. Walmart locations in Charlottetown and Summerside will be open as usual. County Fair Mall in Summerside: The indoor mall will be closed. Giant Tiger and BMO will be open as normal and Lawtons Drugs is open noon to 5pm.
