An invitation to the event describes it as a “Service of Thanksgiving for the life of the late Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II,” the Telegraph reported. Invitations to Trump and other living former presidents, including Barack Obama, Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton and their spouses, were sent Thursday. The service will be held at the Washington National Cathedral on Wednesday. The site has previously hosted state funerals for four former US presidents – Dwight Eisenhower, Ronald Reagan, Gerald Ford and George H.W. Bush – as well as a number of memorial services. It can hold approximately 1,700 people and is expected to be fully booked for the event. The report added that Prime Minister Liz Truss was unlikely to be able to attend the cathedral service in Washington. Organized by the British Embassy in Washington, the service is expected to include dignitaries, including senior members of the US Congress, as well as all foreign ambassadors. Earlier this week, President Joe Biden accepted an invitation to attend the Queen’s funeral in London. White House press secretary Karin Jean-Pierre said the invitation was passed on Saturday as a diplomatic note by the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office’s Protocol Directorate, with Biden accepting it a day later. “The invitation was extended to the US government only for the President and First Lady,” he said. After the Queen’s death was announced, Mr Trump, who had been invited for a state visit to the UK in 2019, took to the Truth Social to eulogize her. “Melania and I are deeply saddened to learn of the loss of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Along with our family and fellow Americans, we send our sincere condolences to the Royal Family and the people of the United Kingdom during this time of great sadness and grief,” he wrote. “Melania and I will always cherish our time with the Queen and we will never forget Her Majesty’s generous friendship, great wisdom and wonderful sense of humour. What a stately and beautiful lady she was—there was none like her!”
