English football legend David Beckham was spotted queuing for the Queen’s sunbed in London.
Speaking to reporters in line, Beckham said he had been waiting with the public for more than 12 hours.
“We all want to be here together, we all want to experience something where we celebrate the amazing life of our Queen,” Beckham said.
“You know something like this today is meant to be shared together. Well, you know the fact that we were here. We eat Pringles. We eat Sherbet Lemons, sandwiches and coffee,” the footballer continued.
Speaking to a reporter from ITV News, Beckham said he “grew up in a royal family” and had come on behalf of his grandparents who he said would have been queuing up if they were still alive.
Beckham spoke of how lucky he was to meet the Queen on several occasions, underlining the honor he felt playing for the England national football team.
“You know I always wanted to represent my country, captain my country, and every time we were there when we were wearing those Three Lions jerseys, and I had my armband and we were singing, you know, ‘God save our queen. ‘ That was something that meant so much to us,” he said.
Dressed in a black suit, navy coat and flat cap, Beckham said that despite queuing for more than 12 hours, “his knees were fine”, although the same could not be said for his back.
Beckham appeared in selfies with fans on social media and a woman who queued next to Beckham for hours told reporters she had “a lot of respect” for the athlete who she said had “submitted to him the way he wanted”.
The queue snakes from Westminster Hall, where the late monarch’s body lies in state, for miles along the south bank of the River Thames. It extends past landmarks such as the London Eye, the Royal Festival Hall and the Globe theatre.
