A 55-year-old Newfoundland man is facing multiple gun charges after police learned he was headed to Alberta to harm multiple people. RCMP received a report on August 23 that Charles Jackson was on his way to Alberta with a gun, with the intention of harming multiple people. Whitbourne RCMP and police in Alberta obtained a warrant for Jackson, as well as one to search his residence in Cavendish, Trinity Bay, where they seized seven firearms, including the gun and ammunition. The RCMP conducted patrols, knocked on doors and conducted searches in the Cavendish area, while police in Alberta did the same. On Wednesday, September 14, Jackson surrendered to Whitbourne Detachment and now faces charges of unlawful possession of a firearm, careless use of a firearm, two counts of menacing and failure to comply with a release order. He was remanded in custody pending a court appearance.
