BC Hydro reported shortly after 1 p.m. that tens of thousands of customers lost power due to a “transmission circuit failure,” affecting many homes and businesses, including Uptown Center and some West Coast schools. Other outages affected customers in West Shore, Duncan, Saanich, Oak Bay and Victoria. The Sooke School District said it had “a number of schools” experiencing outages, though it later confirmed power had been restored. BC Hydro crews arrived on scene of the transmission circuit failure by 1:30 p.m. to resolve it and by 2:30 p.m., all outages had been restored. Many of our schools are currently experiencing power outages in the Langford and Colwood area. We are working to identify all affected and will update. You may not be able to reach schools by phone or email at this time. — Sooke School District (@SD62_Sooke) September 16, 2022
