An opportunity for a budding winemaker has emerged since Covert Farms Family Estate in Oliver is listing a significant portion of its vineyard land for sale for the first time. The 116-acre listing is located in the southeast corner of the family estate and contains 40 acres of ground-planted, 14-year-old Gewurztraminer vines and 19.2 acres of Pinot Gris producing 4-4.5 tonnes per acre, along with 12 acres of certified organic table grapes . “There’s 31.4 acres, which I would say is planted, but not currently planted. And then 13.4 acres of hillside that would tend to be like an ideal kind of cliffside winery,” said Realtor Milan Starcic. In total, there are 102 acres of plantable land, which includes established water rights and access to a private South Okanagan water system. “It’s the largest vineyard acreage for sale in the South Okanagan right now and it’s fully irrigated.” Six wind machines are also included. “It’s really a good fit for someone who’s either looking to open another ghost creek or another big winery, or someone who’s already making a significant amount of wine,” Starcic said. “We’re basically waiting for that next big player to come along.” Starcic said another advantage of the property is that it’s just minutes from the District Wine Village.
