Conservative attorney George Conway said former President Donald Trump is inciting violence by telling millions of people he is being “persecuted without good reason” in connection with the Mar-a-Lago investigation. Conway, when asked by CNN in the Friday interview if he would characterize Trump’s response as a “threat,” said he would. “Yes, absolutely,” Conway said. “I mean it’s basically saying, ‘What a nice country you have here, too bad if something happens to it.’ Last month, the FBI executed a search warrant at the former president’s Mar-a-Lago Florida residence and recovered several boxes containing classified documents that Trump took with him from the White House upon leaving office, according to court records were made public. The search turned up more than two dozen boxes containing about “11,000 documents and 1,800 other items from the office and storage,” according to court records. Some of the boxes are prominently marked as “top secret,” Insider’s Sonam Sheth reported. Some of those materials include private and potentially sensitive documents such as medical, tax and accounting records, the court said. Trump has denied all allegations of wrongdoing, saying he had “declassified” the documents. He also said that “everyone ends up having to bring their work home from time to time.” Trump recently said there would be “big problems” if he were indicted in connection with the investigation. Conway compared the remarks to the riot on Capitol Hill, which resulted in several deaths and injuries. More than a year later, at least 910 people have been charged by federal prosecutors. “It’s basically January 6th all over again,” Conway told CNN. “He denies inciting violence, but the reality is that he is inciting violence because … he has convinced millions of people that he is being persecuted without good reason, when in fact, he knows and is terrified that he has been caught red-handed stealing high-profile government documents and highest security”. “By perpetrating this lie to the American people, he absolutely encourages people to engage in violence,” Conway added. “It’s just out of the question.”
