GOAL: Tottenham 2-2 Leicester City
Leicester are flattened! Castagne bullies Ryan Sessegnon out on the right and takes the cross. James Maddison takes the ball past Dier, slotting the ball over the defender and into the back of the Spurs net. 39mins: Danny Ward climbs onto the ball after receiving a backhand from Wu Faes and almost robs Harry Kane. He gets away with it, but only just. 38 mins: Wilfred Ndidid takes his turn to shoot high over the bar after Tottenham again give the ball away outside their own penalty area. 37 min: Now Harvey Barnes shoots, the ball breaks his way into a decent position after uncertainty in the Tottenham backline. I think it was offside so his effort might not have counted even if it had gone in. 36 mins: James Justin gets past Ivan Perisic, rounding the Croatian before slotting the ball home. Harvey Barnes takes a touch but can’t direct the ball towards goal. 33 min: Leicester continue their brand of sterile (lack of) dominance, invited by Tottenham but giving their hosts little to worry about. Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall shoots over the bar after a Tottenham ld header clears the ball off Rodrigo Bentancur’s shin and into his path. 31 mins: It’s time for the Leicester fans as Spurs win another corner. In this case, Perisic’s delivery is poor and fails to clear the first defender. 29 mins: Wout Faes plays Patson Daka in behind the Spurs defence, but the Leicester striker shoots early and very weakly, straight at Hugo Lloris. This is a dismal effort from a position of great promise. 27 min: From a Spurs corner, Danny Ward gets hold of the ball, only to lose it in an aerial challenge to Davinson Sanchez. The ball bounces across goal from Ndidi, but Leicester clear it as the referee calls for a foul on the Leicester keeper. 24 min: Leicester have progressed, but eventually come unstuck trying to ‘Arsenal’ the ball into the net. Tielemans tries to set up Maddison, who plays the ball back to the Belgian. Both could have fired but neither did.
TARGET! Tottenham 2-1 Leicester City (Dier 22)
Leicester concedes from another corner! Ivan Perisic flicks the ball into the penalty area where Eric Dier uses the pace of the ball to guide a near post header to the far post. Photo: Ryan Pierse/Getty Images Updated at 18:00 BST 21 min: Corner for Tottenham after hard work from Richarlison, who clears the ball away from Castaje. 19 mins: Leicester enjoy plenty of possession but do little. Tottenham seem content to keep them at arm’s length, waiting to pounce on them on the break. It’s pretty boring to look at, but Antonio Conte will argue that it works, so aesthetics are irrelevant as long as the design is effective. 17 min: Castaje sells Maddison short with a misplaced pass, allowing Tottenham to get the ball and go up. Updated at 17.48 BST 14 min: Kane cheaply loses the ball to Didi near the halfway line, handing possession back to Leicester. Their players pinged for a sustained period without making much ground until they found Tielemans on the right side. His cross to the far post is cleared out of the air by Hugo Lloris. 13 min: Richarlison sweeps the ball out to Perisic, who steps forward, cuts inside and tries the shot himself. It is blocked. 11 min: Dejan Kulusevski picks out Kane with a cross from the right after a Tottenham corner, all the better to create a better angle from which the winger was able to find Kane at the far post. TARGET! Tottenham 1-1 Leicester City (Kane 9)
Spurs are flat! Harry Kane slips Timothy Castagne in at the far post as Spurs take a small corner. The cross goes in and heads home from about two yards out. That’s an awfully soft goal for Leicester to concede, but no surprise as they have no hope of defending set-pieces. Harry Kane steals in for the equaliser. Photo: Tony Obrien/Reuters Updated at 17.42 BST 8 mins: That challenge by Davinson Sanchez to take the penalty was absolutely abysmal. There was no need for that and all he had to do was stay on his feet as James Justin entered the Tottenham penalty area. Instead, he dived, brought down Justin and conceded the penalty.
TARGET! Tottenham 0-1 Leicester City (Tielemans 6 pen)
Leicester are ahead! Youri Tielemans goes up again, goes to the same side of the goal, but hits the ball much higher. Lloris goes the right way again, but he doesn’t get a touch and Leicester City are one up. Youri Tielemans counts on the second try Photo: Tony Obrien/Reuters Updated at 17:40 BST Saved! Hugo Lloris dives low to his right to save Youri Tielemans’ effort from 12 yards. Did he stick to his line? I do not think. We will repeat.
Penalty for Leicester!
3 mins: Davidson Sanchez brings down James Justin needlessly on the edge of the penalty area, right on the line. Spot-kick! 3 mins: Harry Kane takes the ball and runs straight through the Leicester defence, advancing into the penalty area. He has been removed by a combination of Wilfred Ndidi and Jonny Evans. 2 mins: Richarlison plays the ball out to Ryan Sessegnon in a forward position. A reasonably promising Tottenham move ends up being halted by James Justin, who beats Dejan Kulceski to Harry Kane’s pass on the right.
Tottenham v Leicester City is coming…
1 min: Leicester take the ball in the last of today’s three Premier League games. Not long ago: Brendan Rodgers and Antonio Conte lead their teams onto the pitch at White Hart Lane, where players from both teams line up in the center circle. Club legends Emile Heskey and Ledley King lay wreaths in the middle of the pitch before a minute’s silence which is largely well observed but interrupted by a few angry shouts from the crowd. This is followed by a rendition of the national anthem. James Madison was injured in the warm-up but appears to be fully recovered. Wearing black armbands, the players will be led off by their managers while the crowds are asked to applaud until the 70th minute.
First team news
Lucas Moura looks to be Tottenham’s only injury absentee and remains sidelined with a hamstring injury. While no-one likes to see Heung-min Son unhappy, the clamor to ditch the prodigious South Korean striker has intensified in recent games, but Conte can keep faith with last year’s joint Golden Boot winner, even if that means restriction. the informed Dejan Kulusevski in an appearance again from the bench. Leicester also have an almost fully fit, if not executive squad, with long-term absentees Ryan Bertrand and Ricardo Pereira their only confirmed absentees. Dropped to the bench for their most recent game against Brighton, Jamie Vardy will be hoping to start ahead of Patson Daka or Kelechi Iheanacho.
Premier League: Tottenham v Leicester City
Bottom of the table with just one point to their name, Leicester City travel to White Hart Lane with manager Brendan Rodgers under huge pressure ahead of the international break. His side face a Tottenham side that has been hot and cold this season, even if they have positive results their performances have occasionally been underwhelming. With four league wins already this season, Spurs are favorites to go seven games in seven unbeaten this season, but manager Antonio Conte will surely be satisfied with little more than an outright victory. Kick off is at 5.30pm. (BST), but stay tuned in the meantime for team news and the build-up.
