Emergency services were called to the scene and the child was taken to hospital. West Yorkshire Police confirmed she died from her injuries and said an investigation by the Major Collision Investigation Team was ongoing. A spokesman for the force said: “Police were called to an address in Coupland Road, Leeds, at approximately 8.10pm. on Friday, September 16 to report that a one-year-old child had been seriously injured in a car collision on the road. “Emergency services rushed to the scene and a young child was taken to hospital. Unfortunately the child died a short time later from his injuries. “Enquiries are continuing today since the major collision and the investigation team and specialist officers are working to support the family at what is clearly a tragic time.” One person claimed to have witnessed the aftermath of the incident on social media, in a post that read: “Just left a horrible scene on a block of new houses. A woman was crying. I saw a man holding a lifeless child in his arms.” Detectives were expected to conduct a crash investigation at the scene and take statements from any witnesses. A file was to be sent to the coroner at Leeds and an inquest would be opened and adjourned.
