Gauff paid tribute to Federer, Serena Williams
After Serena Williams’ final match at the US Open, Gauff spoke about how Serena and Venus Williams have inspired her tennis journeys.
With Serena retiring and Venus likely to retire in the near future, Gauff wants to follow in their footsteps and be a great role model. “For me, for any kid, but especially for the ones that look like me, I think for the most part, just keep doing what you want to do, no matter what people say,” Gauff said.
“I think for me, the Williams sisters definitely inspired me to play tennis because I saw someone like me playing in a sport that not a lot of people look like me. I hope I can be that for other kids. Yeah, that’s all I do can really say. Just keep being our authentic selves. Don’t try to feed any stereotypes, just be you.” Garcia This week, Gauff was confirmed for the San Diego Open, which starts on October 10.
