(BC Wildfire Service) Good news this morning from the Battleship Mountain fire battle. The BC Wildfire Service reports that most areas of the fire have received more than 10 mm of rain since Friday, with some areas reporting nearly 20 mm. The rain is expected to continue until midday, with another five to 10 millimeters forecast, according to the BCWS. It will be accompanied by cool daytime temperatures of 8 to 10 degrees and northwesterly winds of up to 40km. “Although rainfall is helping to cool the fire, the fire continues to smolder in heavier fuels,” the fire service said in an update. “Surface fires exhibiting Category 1 fire behavior are expected today.” Hudson’s Hope remains under evacuation order. Here’s today’s operational update from BCWS:

Cooler temperatures, higher humidity and rainfall have reduced fire activity in the Battleship Mountain fire. In the last 24 hours there has been 10 to 20 mm of rain in various parts of the fire. The rain continues and is expected to last until this afternoon. The unit crew working on the west side is almost done securing the guard on the west heel of the fire. Three unit crews continue to work on out-of-fuel operations and patrol on the southwest side. The emergency line on the south side should be completed by the end of the day today. The emergency line on the west side of Wright Lake is complete. On the northeast side, three unit crews have begun assessing and removing patchy fuel, as well as cleaning and extinguishing hot spots. Due to low cloud, there was no visibility for helicopters to support operations yesterday. Opportunities for air support will depend on current conditions. As the weather subsides, construction protection equipment has begun to be phased out.
