Former President Donald Trump speaks at a Save America rally in Youngstown, Ohio, in support of Republican Senate candidate JD Vance. In an earlier post on Truth Social, Trump called the event a “sold-out juggernaut” and claimed that without his rallies and endorsements, most candidates like Vance would have lost. Meanwhile, Matt Gaetz told a former White House staffer that he hoped to receive a preemptive pardon from then-President Trump in connection with a Justice Department investigation into him, according to a report. The claim came in testimony given to the House Select Committee investigating the Capitol Hill riot on January 6, 2021, the Washington Post reported. Johnny McEntee reportedly told the panel that the Florida Republican told him during a brief meeting “that he is being investigated or that there is an investigation into him.” Mr McEntee did not specify who was investigating the MP. Mr. McEntee was asked by the committee whether Mr. Gaetz made the request as part of a Justice Department investigation into allegations that he may have violated federal anti-sex-trafficking laws. “I think that was the context, yes,” Mr. McEntee said, according to those familiar with the testimony.
