LAS VEGAS — Canelo Alvarez retained his undisputed super middleweight championship on Saturday at T-Mobile Arena with a unanimous decision victory over challenger Gennadiy Golovkin in a trilogy fight. Two judges scored it 115-113, while a third had it 116-112 for Alvarez. After the final bell and 36 rounds together, the two rivals shared a long hug, apparently ending a feud that had become personal over the years. Golovkin, aged 40, got off to an incredibly slow start and barely landed a right hand in the first two quarters of the fight, but came on strong late and appeared to win the final four rounds.

Golovkin (42-2-1, 37 KOs), who won a TKO over Ryota Murata in April, fought at 168 pounds for the first time after a legendary middleweight streak where he still holds two 160-pound titles.
