A user teapotuberhacker posted a zip file on GTAForums, saying “Here’s 90 footage/clips from GTA 6. I’m likely to leak more data soon, GTA 5 and 6 source code and assets, GTA 6 trial version. [sp]” The clips then made their way to YouTube and Twitter and show robberies, guns, full voice conversations and more. What appear to be debugging items (which look a lot like similar tools from Red Dead Redemption 2’s development) also appear on the screen. If legit, the videos appear to confirm previous rumors about the game, including male and female protagonists, as well as a Vice City setting. The source of the videos is currently unconfirmed, but it could be the result of a hack. Teapotuberhacker claims they downloaded them directly from Rockstar’s internal Slack groups. We will not link to the videos in this article. As you might expect, the videos have sparked a heated debate about their authenticity. Some have questioned the elements used (pointing to the reuse of GTA 5 elements), while others have pointed to the voiced dialogue and debugging elements as evidence that this is legitimate. Developer Rockstar and publisher Take-Two have yet to respond to the apparent leak, but it will be fascinating to see if the takedowns begin. We’ve reached out to Rockstar for comment. After years of rumors, GTA 6 was finally confirmed this year, but more official news will apparently only come when Rockstar is ready, not when owner Take-Two asks. Rockstar is said to have moved more developers to GTA 6 recently having scrapped the Red Dead Redemption and GTA 4 remasters. Joe Skrebels is IGN’s Executive News Editor. Follow him on Twitter.
