The driver was taken into custody and transported to Foothills Hospital with unspecified injuries. Police say investigators are still investigating the cause of the crash. “The speed limit on the section (of) the road is 50 kilometers per hour and early indications are that (the vehicle was travelling) well above that. Right now, I can’t say how fast,” said Sgt. Colin Foster of the collision reconstruction unit.

Calgary police are investigating the scene of a fatal crash on 17 Ave. and 36 St. SE in Calgary on Sunday, September 18, 2022. A pickup struck a bus shelter on northbound 36 St., killing a man inside the bus shelter. Jim Wells/Postmedia Mark Soliga, who lives directly across the street from the scene, said his mother woke him up after hearing the loud bang outside. Looking outside, he saw several police officers and paramedics trying to save the victim. “There are a lot of accidents around that area, but at the bus stop, it was kind of scary,” he said. He said paramedics tried to revive the man for about 10 or 15 minutes before he was pronounced dead. Police closed 36th Street between 16th and 18th avenues SE as they continued to investigate. Police are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact the CPS traffic division at 403-428-4000 or the non-emergency line at 403-266-1234.
