Biden was asked during a “60 Minutes” interview that aired Sunday if he has made a “firm decision” to seek four more years in the White House. “Look, my intention, as I said at the beginning, is to run again. But it’s just an intention. But is it a firm decision to run again? That remains to be seen,” Biden said. CBS correspondent Scott Pelley pressed the president on whether Biden’s commitment to serve a second term would rest on “certain conditions.” “It is too early to make such a decision. I am a great respecter of fate. And so, what I do is I do my job. I will do this job,” he said. “And within the time frame that makes sense after this next election cycle here, after next year, you decide what you’re going to do.” Biden has not ruled out re-election. Biden reportedly told former President Barack Obama earlier this year that he sincerely intended to run again, in an apparent attempt to quash speculation that he would retire. But some Democrats said the president should let a younger generation take over the White House. Earlier this year, the President shared that he had thoughts of running for re-election. Aimee Dilger/SOPA Images/Shutterstock “People, I think, want some change,” Ohio Democratic Senate candidate Tim Ryan said earlier this month. “I think it’s time for some generational change, which of course I’ve been trying to do for a while.” Republicans have questioned Biden’s mental focus as he turns 80 in November, making him the oldest president in the nation’s history. “I respect the fact that people would say, you know, ‘You’re old,’” the president told Pelley. He believes it is too early to give a firm answer about his political move. CBS News “But I think it has to do with how much energy you have and whether or not the work you’re doing is consistent with what any person of any age could do.” He dared the critics to “watch” him. “Look at me. And honest to God, that’s all I think. Look at me,” Biden said. “If you think I don’t have the energy level or the mental acuity, then, you know, that’s one thing. It’s another thing, just you see and, you know, keep my schedule. Do what I do. I think that, you know, I don’t – when I sit down with our NATO allies and keep them together, I don’t have them say, ‘Wait a minute, how much – how much old are you;””. The president was interviewed by “60 Minutes” correspondent Scott Pelley.CBS News “How would you say your mental focus is?” Peli asked. “Oh, it’s focused. I would say it’s — I think it’s — I — I haven’t — look, I have a hard time even mentioning, even telling myself, my head, the number of years,” Biden said. “I don’t think I’m as old as I am except to fly. I mean, it’s just not — I haven’t noticed anything in terms of — there’s no things I’m not doing now that I did before, whether it’s physical, or mental, or whatever.”
