The new King Charles III, as well as Princes William and Harry, will walk behind the coffin. World leaders including President Joe Biden, French President Emmanuel Macron, New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, Australia’s Anthony Albanese and Canada’s Justin Trudeau will arrive shortly after. Prime Minister Liz Truss and the Commonwealth Secretary-General will speak as the ceremony begins. This will be followed by a sermon by the Archbishop of Canterbury. A two-minute silence will be observed across the country, which will include aircraft noise as Heathrow stops all arrivals and departures for half an hour. The closing of the service will be marked by a eulogy, the national anthem and a lament played by the Queen’s piper. The coffin will then be taken to Windsor. The route will be run by the armed forces and guns will be fired every minute. The Sevastopol bell and the curfew bell will each ring. A prayer service will be held at St. George’s Chapel at 4 pm local time. The Dean of Windsor Castle and a congregation including the Royal Family and some of the Queen’s personal staff will lead this ceremony. The Archbishop of Canterbury will give the benediction and those present will sing ‘God Save the King’. Before the final hymn, the imperial crown, orb and scepter will be removed from the Queen’s coffin and placed on the altar. The Queen will be buried at the King George VI Memorial alongside her husband Prince Philip, who died last year. The funeral will use 213 full HD cameras which will be installed in Westminster Abbey, St George’s Chapel and Westminster Hall. 14 OB trucks will broadcast from 10 locations, and the entire broadcast will be sustainably powered by hydrogen and vegetable oil, according to the BBC. UK COVERAGE
In the UK, the country will effectively come to a standstill as daily coverage from Westminster Abbey will be available on the BBC, ITV and Sky News, before programs return to something resembling normality. An incredibly rare ad ban means no commercials will be played for 24 hours, meaning that while the ratings will be astronomical, the day won’t be a cash cow for commercial broadcasters.
