The official day of mourning in Newfoundland and Labrador today is a mixed bag of closures and business-as-usual.
All schools and federal and provincial government offices are closed for the day, but the decision to close is up to individual municipalities and private businesses.
In the capital, all city offices and services are open as usual, with the regular weekly council meeting taking place this afternoon. Many other municipalities, however, chose to close for today.
In Corner Brook, city hall will be closed as will the Civic Center headquarters, but other services, such as trash pickup and public transit, will continue without interruption. The regular Corner Brook council meeting scheduled for tonight will be held tomorrow.
City offices and all facilities will be open to CBS, where the Royal Canadian Legion will hold a wreath-laying ceremony for the Queen’s passing at 10:45 a.m. at the Memorial. The Royal Canadian Legion at Mount Pearl will hold a similar ceremony this morning at 11:00 a.m. at St. David’s Park.
All city facilities in Paradise, Carbonear, Grand Falls Windsor and Portugal Cove-St. Philips will be closed for the day.
Health services meanwhile are proceeding as normal with only a few canceled appointments.
