A research team led by Professor Shogo Makioka at the Graduate School of Sustainable System Sciences, Osaka Metropolitan University, wanted to test the concept of embodied knowledge. Embodied cognition suggests that people understand words for objects through the way they interact with them, so the researchers devised a test to observe the semantic processing of words when the ways in which participants could interact with objects were limited....

WECHU says the School Immunization Act requires public health units to maintain and review immunization records for every student attending school and impose in-school suspensions for incomplete immunization information. The health unit first issued more than 13,000 notices in June. On the surface, the court’s decision, under the Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA), appears to resemble the exemption from the Affordable Care Act’s mandatory contraceptive coverage that the Supreme Court granted in the 2014 Hobby Lobby case. But on a deeper level, the new decision goes much further than the Hobby Lobby decision. If upheld by the appellate court and the Supreme Court, the Texas decision would exempt an employer who refused to provide any health care coverage of any kind on the grounds that medical insurance encourages people to rely on medical science rather than religious belief in programming....
